As someone who has struggled with body image and beauty standards through most of my life, the idea of this type of shoot terrified me.  However, as someone who has been on a personal journey to find inner peace and liberation, it draws me in like a moth to a flame. I asked myself:  How can I feel a deep sense of peace if I cannot allow myself to be photographed as I am, and give permission to myself to be vulnerable and to love myself completely? I’ve learned shining a light on my core is an essential part of the journey.

Inner peace comes with a sense of freedom that one can only experienced by loving yourself wholly.

And breathe! There is no judgment here. Only love and appreciation of our
gorgeous, perfectly imperfect selves.

Yes, this photoshoot can be a journey of self-exploration, but there are many other reasons why you might choose an I AM session:

  • The shoot will approximately be 1 to 1.5 hours long, with 3 outfit changes. You will get to see your images right after the session, so I would allow 2-3 hours of time so there’s no pressure for you to get back to “life”. We want this experience to be relaxed and free and all about you and not have you worrying about commitments or schedules.

  • MOVEMENT (here I will use movement to bring you down into your heart and your body. Don’t worry about how to pose or act in front of the camera, that’s my job and I will guide you using gentle prompts and casual conversation. 

    EXPRESS (this part of the shoot we get into emotions and how we express them and I capture you as you show me what feelings look like to you, and all the in between moments that capture your candid smiles, mannerisms and laughs as we move through the emotions!)

    EMBRACE (the final part of the shoot is a celebration of our bodies, where you show some skin. It can be as little or as much as you feel comfortable with.  This is not boudoir, not meant to be sexy, it is a physical representation of vulnerability and it’s here that we connect with why you chose to join me here today).

  • That is entirely up to you! The Embrace portion of the shoot is a celebration of the skin you’re in. It is not meant to be sexy or boudoir, but a physical representation of vulnerability. It may mean wearing a v-neck tshirt, pajamas, a tank top, an oversize sweater, or as far as you’d like to go!

  • I am currently renting studios as I build my portfolio. The studio location will be determined at the time of the shoot and will be chosen based on the most convenient location to both of us. I am also open to working out of your home if the space allows for it.

  • I love black and white portraiture because it can enhance the storytelling aspect of your images. It allows us to focus on you and strips away distractions that adding colour might bring about, with more attention on emotion, expression and presence. It’s simplicity and play with light and shadows also adds contrast and depth to the image.

  • It might be the most exciting part of the session! You get to see your images right after we’re done shooting! We will sit together with my laptop and you will take the reins and select for yourself your favourites (and yes this includes all the blinks, outtakes). After you’ve been through one full round, I will then help you narrow it down based on what products you’re choosing to purchase to showcase your beautiful self.

  • The I AM Sessions are rooted in self-love, self-exploration and a celebration of you! Extensive photoshop that involves any sort of “fixing” doesn’t align with the heart of the shoot. You are beautifully perfect as you are! That’s not to say that minimal retouches cannot be done (i.e. healing unexpected acne) and minor adjustments to lighting and background will take place in the next few days after the instant reveal.

  • If you normally wear makeup and style your hair, by all means do so! Show up looking your best, as you would day to day. It will mean different things do different people. Some people are stressed out by the idea of doing their makeup and while for others it is their second nature. This photoshoot is about capturing you as you are.

  • As you are helping me build my portfolio, you will be asked to sign a Model Release which allows for me to use your images in my portfolio or any type of marketing for my business, which could include Instagram, email, my website, or other places. Please know that your privacy is important to me, and if there are any images that you wish I do not use, I will absolutely keep private.
